Roy Gillispie Blakey was born on April 27, 1880 in Shelbina, Missouri. He earned his bachelor's degree from Drake University (Des Moines, IA) in 1905, his M.A. from the University of Colorado in 1910 and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1912. Dr. Blakey joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1915 as associate professor of economics; he was promoted to professor in 1919.
